Fish adapt to life outside water by learning to walk

Posted by K R on

Taking a fish out of water may seem like a recipe for disaster. But scientists have proved that some fish can adapt to terra firma and even begin to develop an efficient walking stride to help them manoeuvre on solid ground. Researchers at McGill University in Canada carried out an experiment on a group of polypterus, a type of African fish which has lungs and can breathe air and can move on land to reach water. They were curious to see what would happen if they kept the fish permanently on land. via Telegraph.
