NASA astronomers question black hole model

The black hole model is being questioned by none other than some scientists at NASA. The issue was raised after the US-space agency’s WISE (Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) survey dug some vital information about it. The team jumped to conclusion after completing their survey of over 170,000 super-massive black holes. And it was after that they suggested that the unified model might be insufficient. Emilio Donoso, a postdoctoral researcher who worked at NASA’s Infrared Processing and Analysis Centre, said: “The main purpose of unification was to put a zoo of different kinds of active nuclei into a single umbrella. Now, that has become increasingly complex to do as we dig deeper into the WISE data.” The importance of the study could be gauged from the fact that it has been accepted at the Astrophysical Journal. During the study, scientists focussed on active supermassive black holes at the centres of galaxies. Moreover, the clustered and shrouded black holes were also examined with detail. The new finding will certainly have a long-term impact on the way astronomers have been looking at black hole all these years. Also, WISE’s finding will help young astronomers in better understanding the mystery of black hole. via Northern Voices Online.
