Thu Apr 11 (Hour 1-2) - Dr. Xingang Chen - What Happened Before the Big Bang

Posted by K R on

Dr. Chen will discuss the new theory of what happened before the "Big Bang" by dialing us back in time and taking a peek into the status of the universe at the moment of its creation. Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2003 and held postdoc positions in the University of Florida, Cornell University and MIT. He was then a Stephen Hawking Advanced Fellow in the University of Cambridge. Before moving to Harvard University, he was an assistant professor in the University of Texas at Dallas.
1. The timeline of the Big Bang Universe. Inflation is currently the leading candidate theory for the origin of the Big Bang.
2. Quantum mechanically generated massive elementary particles can function as ticking clocks to help us decide which theory--inflation or its alternative--is the correct one.
